Eden Optometrists have been taking care of Garden Router's eyes since 1986, founded by Andy Muir and grown with Johan van der Meer. You may know us as Muir Optometrists and in June 2023 we rebranded to Eden Optometrists to better express our evolving service menu.

The team comprises: Andy Muir, Johan vd Meer, Claudine vd Meer, Karen Coetzee, Magdalena Bondt, Rosalien Williams. Andy qualified with Dip. Optom. F.O.A. (SA), M.C.Optom. (UK) and C.A.S. (Boston).
Andy Muir is well known in the Knysna community through his exploits in Rotary, Golf, Tennis and previously with the formation of Oakhill School in Knysna.
He offers Rotary vision screening for indigents when possible (using recycled frames for the needy) and he understands the unique needs of sports persons.
Johan studied optometry at RAU where he met his wife Claudine. He started his first practice in Kenridge in 2003, a second Welgemoed practice in 2005, and a Paarl branch in 2014. He sold his group of practices in 2018 and moved to the Garden Route to join Andy in his practice.
Johan and Claudine love nature, their 2 Jack Russels, a good game of tennis & martial arts.
Johan shares Andy's passion in bringing our community quality eye care. He loves his time with patients, getting to know their true visual needs.
Being community focused is at the heart of Eden Optometrists. Amanda Vlok was our very first patient in 1986; decades later at 93 years old, she cut the ribbon to declare our new premises open! Contractors and workers joined us for coffee & biscuits at the opening.
Eden Optometrists' ethos of patient-centric, sensitive care is cultivated in all staff members. Our quality care spills over into environmental awareness: all obsolete plastic optical products, like frames, lenses and disposable contact lenses are recycled where possible, or disposed of responsibly.
